Shanghai's Pudong and Hongqiao airports are gearing up for a surge in travelers during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 22 this year.
The two airports are expected to handle 5,900 flights and 906,000 passengers from June 22 to 24, with the average daily passenger flow hitting 302,000, according to the Shanghai Airport Authority.
Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi'an, Chongqing, Chengdu and Qingdao are among the most popular destinations for travelers from Shanghai.
To meet the demand of travelers, the airport authority has prepared contingency plans and coordinated closely with airlines and other units to tweak check-in and security protocols.
In light of the large number of families traveling during the break, both airports have further upgraded their maternal care rooms.
